Le Chien et son Ombre d'Ésope
A dog was carrying a piece of meat in his mouth, on his way home to eat it in peace. Along the way, he had to cross a bridge over a stream. As he crossed, he looked down and saw his own reflection in the water. Thinking it was another dog carrying another piece of meat, he decided he wanted that one too. He snapped at the shadow in the water, but when he opened his mouth, the piece of meat fell, dropped into the stream, and was lost.
