About this workshop

Through the Native American legend of the hummingbird, children learn about empathy, solidarity, and the power of collective action. This playful workshop combines storytelling, artistic creation, and movement to teach that even the smallest gesture counts when we unite.

"Even the smallest gesture counts when we unite!"

The Associated Story

The Legend of the Hummingbird

The Legend of the Hummingbird

The legend encourages us to take action rather than do nothing in the face of problems that make us feel powerless, or that we think should be solved by others. We can act at our own level, starting with very small steps and putting ourselves in motion. And even if our individual actions seem insignificant on their own, it is through the sum of all the hummingbirds that change happens. This legend can also be linked to Gandhi’s famous quote: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
